Chapter 16 Haircutting
Learning Objectives:
Identify reference points on the head form and understand their role in
haircutting
Define angles, elevations, and guidelines
List the factors involved in a successful client consultation
Explain the use of the various tools of haircutting
Name three things you can do to ensure good posture and body position while
cutting hair
Perform the four basic haircuts
Discuss and explain three different texturizing techniques performed with
shears
Explain what a clipper cut it
Identify the uses of a trimmer

Assessment/Find pictures in a magazine-match it to the labeled handout
Speed consultation activity-Ten student’s stand behind the chair, ten
students keep moving to the right. Each consultation takes 3 minutes-Hair
Designer looks at their client’s hair and figures out how it was cut then
records their findings. They will be recording how the haircut was cut including
angles and measurements.
Demonstration/Guided Practice
Other Hand-outs/Headforms for each haircut/Module
Essential Review
Windowpanes/Procedures/Supplies/Proper draping
Technology-Hair cut report-Find a picture online and print it out. Tell step
by step how it was cut and styled.
Research project-Find a popular hair designer and write a biography on that
person.
